He then offered to take me out for dessert if I wasn’t in too much of a rush. To be honest I didn’t care if I stayed until 4am! So he drove me down to a local chocolatier to share a sundae. Again – it was lovely, simple conversation, and because I was tired I was definitely happy to let him do most of the talking. A few times I thought he was going to go in for a kiss but it didn’t happen, and whilst I was a little disappointed, it wasn’t a big deal. I think he was again a little unsure because I was so quiet, and I resolved to put in more effort in the conversation department.

On the drive back we sat in companionable silence and I apologised for being so tired and quiet. He said it was fine, and we listened to Taylor Swift for the rest of the trip. (Yes, Taylor Swift. I’m fundamentally opposed to her. But there’s a back story. I’ll tell it later.)

Back at my car he got out to say goodnight and politely but a little awkwardly moved in for the long-awaited first kiss. It was a gooooood kiss. After he drove off and I waited for my car to warm up, I did a little seat-dance. Yay!

I got a text message when I was half way home:

Hey thanks for dinner tonight! And sorry yet again for another awkward goodbye. I never make assumptions so always struggle with what an appropriate ‘good night’ is. Lol. I liked kissing you and still loving the 6’2 ;)

I responded with:

I had fun tonight. I liked kissing you too :)
