One night he sent me a message that just said “inappropriate”. Cute. Right?
It was about four weeks before we met up. I was heading north to visit my family and dropped in to meet him for breakfast. He was gorgeous. Definitely 6’3. And as funny in person as he was in his texts. We had breakfast, and after an hour staring at our empty plates he suggested a walk along the esplanade. So we walked and talked. We stopped at a table and talked some more. About work, about life, about family.
He was supposed to be in Australia on holidays only for a few months and had a job as a car-washer at a car servicing workshop. I may have hummed a few bars of the ‘Carwash’ song to tease him. He was a very good sport about it really and told me about his previous job as an operations manager in a warehouse. We discussed HR issues and some of the staffing issues we both faced despite working in completely different roles. He was a switched on individual, I could tell he wasn’t making it up, or just trying to impress me.
He talked a lot, but several times apologised for talking so much, saying that I was making him nervous. I was a bit quieter with him than I was with other bachelors, but it wasn’t because I was uncomfortable or awkward, it was more because I just didn’t feel the need to be ‘switched on’ like with the others.
I definitely wanted to stay longer, but I was already two hours longer than I’d told my sister I’d be, and needed to keep travelling. So he walked me back to my car, checked it out for ten minutes, and we cheek-kissed goodbye.
He sent me a message ten minutes later:
Nice meeting you today, loooove the 6’2. Sorry for the awkward goodbye, I can never tell what’s expected or appropriate and you make me nervous! Lmao.
